Unit one reflection
Unit One Reflection :)
Throughout Unit 1, my research focused on the relationship between writing and technology and how both things have their issues, but also massive pros. At first, the pencil shop article by Molly Young introduced the idea that even in a digital world, people still value traditional writing tools. The store represented more than just pencils — it symbolized nostalgia and a turn from screen-based culture. This made me start thinking, "Who would go to a pencil store?" and to be hoenest maybe I wuld depeding on the interest. which is a whole other conversation!
From there, my second source, the Pew Research article, helped me understand how deeply technology is embedded in teenagers’ daily lives. The statistics about social media usage showed that most modern communication, as well as new forms of addiction, now happens online. This really helped me wrap my head around the severity of this bigger issue of addiction as a generation. The fact that 15% of people are "Non stop on thier phones." is sick. and its not even my generation's fault, these apps and features ae designed to get you addicted. It's a way for people to cope with all sorts of mental battles.
The article about digital tools in writing classrooms shifted my thoughts on teachers' relationship to teaching with technology. It showed that technology not only influences students, but also teachers who must constantly adapt to new tools to keep their students as well as the educational department happy. This isn't just teachers not knowing how to keep up with the newest tech way to help students learn, but about training, access, and institutional change.
Finally, the interview about ChatGPT introduced the role of artificial intelligence in writing. This source felt especially relevant because AI is not just influencing how we communicate — it is now participating in the writing process itself. It raised important questions about the real motivation to actually learn as students and the future of academic work.
Overall, I'm excited for unit two to have an even more specific idea of what I am talking about. I am also hoping to find a more varied variety of sources. Although my sources were interesting and a little out of the realm of something I would personally pick persoanlly I wish they were more personal/creative. Writing and technology are in a complex relationship that affects culture, education, creativity, and identity. Through this unit, I learned how to analyze different types of sources, cultural articles, statistical research, educational studies, and interviews, and connect them into one larger conversation about how writing continues to change in a digital age for better or worse.
